Unit 2A
Present perfect simple and continuous; illnesses and injuries vocabulary
All writing tasks in this book look more or less like product-focused activities. All tasks are provided with a model text and useful phrases and there is an emphasis on checking your writing for mistakes. But there are also some elements of process approach like planning the content.
Writing task: write an informal e-mail to a friend, explaining that you have not been well, and saying what you have been doing recently.
We can see a model of an informal letter with highlighted phrases. There are also some tips about how better to start an informal letter. There is a paraphrasing task and a frame with useful language. Then goes the task where students must write a plan of their future letter and only after that they can write an informal letter using useful phrases from the previous tasks. The last task is to check email for grammar, punctuation and spelling mistakes. This writing task is product-focused. To make it more process- focused I’d add writing of a draft and exchanging it with partners. Also it’s a good idea to personalize writing e-mail and chose a classmate they are writing to.
