I agree. There aren't perfect books. However, many times books provide good ideas and enrich the teacher's ideas.
Sure, a coursebook for children should be interesting for them and the language should be easy to use. So it has to include lots of games, stories, songs and topics related with the things they play such as toys.
Many coursebooks include supplementary components or give ideas to do them.
Yes, most of the times schools choose the coursebook.
Coursebooks with central characters and a story aren't always interesting for children. However, if the story is good and interesting for them, children feel emotions and it encourage them to develop language skills.
Coursebooks without answer keys are better.
It doesn't matter if the children are very young there are well designed coursebooks for the youngest, the important is to choose the appropriate.
I prefered the coursebooks based on topics and function.
