I don't agree with the first statement. I'm almost sure that not everybody in a 10-years-old group think that singing songs is only for babies. The point is that the songs used in the classroom should be meaningful for them, that's it, songs that they like to listen to or are trendy in their non-classroom environment. A good strategy may be to ask the students what songs they like at the beginning of the course, and use them along the course.
