What factors do you consider important in causing mixed ability? Put these in order of importance for you:
previous exposure
motivation
aptitude
attitude
learning style
personality
I think the suggestion of the preofesores is very good and I agree because the students are different and learn from different ways. As a teacher, I have searched for different styles of learning to involve my students and to have them motivated in my classes. I don't think so that mixed ability is a problem as a teacher we should take it as an advantage as we involve the students more to work in teams and to help each other.
