SPEAKING ACTIVITIES AND DISCUSSIONS

Post by AMIRA » Fri Nov 03, 2017 3:31 pm

SPEAKING has been one of the most difficult skills to develop in my students, there are plenty of reasons about it but the most important thing we shuold take in consideration is that we have to focus not in the accuracy but in the effort they make at first.

What I use to do in order to improve this skill is giving them enough and useful vocabulary before the topic; in this way students can infer what it is going to be about and what they know and do not about it. Then they can identify how it is used by reading, answering questions, using them on sentences or expressions while speaking.

It is also relevant to say if we focus our attention in students´ interests, the speaking activities such as discussions, chats, debates, show and tell, role play and conversations will be more memorable for them, thus we must give them enough time to think about what to say and and how depending the kind of activity is. Besides the previous mentioned, we have to focus our attention on our students whit lower level which are the real goal, so what I do is give them follow up activities and personalise them to make them feel comfortable and secure.
