Dodgeball is a game in which players on two teams try to throw balls at each other while avoiding being hit themselves. In North America, the game is typically played among children ages 6–12 in elementary school. However, internationally, the sport has also emerged as a popular middle school, high school and college sport and in some countries universities also play the sport. It is also popular in informal settings and is often played on a playground, community or in organised recreational leagues. There are many variations of the game, but generally the main objective of each team is to eliminate all members of the opposing team by hitting them with thrown balls, catching a ball thrown by a member of the opposing team, or forcing them to move outside the court boundaries when a ball is thrown at them. Internationally, there are currently two world bodies World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF) that uses Foam and World Dodgeball Association (WDA) which uses Cloth. The first World Dodgeball Championships was organized by the World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF) in 2012 hosted by Malaysia under the Malaysia Association of Dodgeball which became an annual championship then hosted by New Zealand (2013), Hong Kong by Hong Kong Dodgeball Association (HKDA)(2014), USA by United States Dodgeball Organization (USDO) (2015) and the most recent Melbourne, Australia by Australian Dodgeball Federation (ADF) (2016). The next World Dodgeball Championships will be held in Toronto, Canada hosted by Dodgeball Canada at the Markham Pan Am Center [1] from 18th - 21st October 2017. Countries that would be competing in this upcoming Championships would be the Host Canada including countries like Malaysia, Australia, Singapore and USA.
