In my opinion, the statement "some languages are harder than others" depends on the ethnolinguistical environment of the speaker. Theoretically, Romanesque languages will be easier to learn for me than non-Romanesque ones, because of the grammar, for example. In the opposite, languages with other alphabets, or even sign codes, could be the most difficult experience!
