Dolphins are marine mammals part of the family of toothed whales. They are found world wide. They are carnivorous. They consume a variety of prey, squid, fish and crustaceans. They use the echolocation to find prey and often hunt together. Although they are toothed they never chew their food, they use their teeth only to catch their prey.
There are 40 species of dolphins an all of them are so diverse in range size. The smallest specie is the Mauii's dolphin who is around 1.3 meters long and the biggest specie is the Orca who grows about 25 feet in length. Most of dolphins live long lives.They can live around 40 years and the Orcas could live around 80 years. Most species live in shallow areas of tropical oceans around the world , and 5 species live in world's rivers. It has been proved by scientist that dolphins give themselves names. They develop their own individual whistles and they recognize theirs and other dolphins names.
