Hello,

I found out a lot of information about doping in sport in the net. This is a resume of what I found:

The EPO, erythropoientin which is normally secreted by the kidney, stimulates red blood cell production: It is used in aerobic exercise activities as cycling. The side effects are arterial hypertension, cerebral convulsion and thrombo-embolism.

Anabolic steroids refer to hormones that influence the body's hormonal system to produce extra testosterone to increase muscle mass which is an advantage ins sports as weight lifting. Increased testosterone can also provide a competitive advantage because it increases one’s red blood cells. Potential health risks including increased risk for heart attack, stroke and blood clots. Increased cholesterol levels, hair loss, acne, enlarged prostates. Increased hormone levels can also lead to aggressive behavior and mood swings.

The growth hormone is used in an attempt to build muscle and improve athletic performance. The side effects can include muscle aches, headaches and swelling of the hands and feet.

Gene doping involves inserting DNA for the purpose of enhancing athletic performance. Some experts say that gene doping could be dangerous, and perhaps even fatal. The field of gene therapy, and by extension, gene doping, is full of unpredictable and scientists emphasize that the research is still at only an experimental stage.

I agree Fiore - basically drugs have serious health consequences, and for that alone they should be banned.
Thanks for writing!

Hello to everybody,
In my opinion it's not possible legalise the doping in sport, because it's result in serious health problems and leads to a greatly-reduced of life expectancy.
The side effects have an enormous worse impact in particular on the young people, becouse their bodies are still growing.
Hower it's not possible improve the athletes performance with drugs because it would be unfair.
In my opinion, to stop the use of the drugs in sport and stop the breaking rules by the athletes we have to work a lot on our self. We have to riconsider the mean of the sport. We have to work a lot all together to teach what does mean victory, and we have to explain that in sport the Machiavelli's phrase." tutto è lecito" has not value.
If someone ask me: "Are athletes who take drugs cheats or are they victims?" I will answer that they are both, cheat because they take a free decision, victims due to today only winning and is important and there are everytime under pressure.
