FCB shield team

The FCB Shield Team.

The Barcelona Football Club has had ten different versions for its shield since the Club was founded in 1900.

Today’s Barcelona’s Football Club shield is shaped like a "pot", divided into three sections. In the upper two, the flag of Barcelona is reproduced, that is, the Cross of Saint George and the Catalonian flag. A ball appears at the bottom, over the club's blue and burgundy colours. In the centre of the shield, in a strip, are the club's initials, «FCB» which stand for “ Fútbol Club de Barcelona”.

After its foundation the club used the City of Barcelona as its own shield as a way of expressing its connection with the city. In fact, it was inspired by the Coat of arms of the Villa de Barcelona, 1900-1910.
Carles Comamala, a player of the club between 1903 and 1912, designed the new shield of the club in 1910.
The shield has changed little since then. However, there were important changes due to political constraints, since, during the Franco regime , the initials «FCB» were replaced by «CFB», Club de Fútbol Barcelona, in keeping with the Spanish name of the club. And the number of barracks was reduced from four to two removing the Catalonia flag. At the end of 1974 the initial acronyms were again included, whereby the shield backs the original content 1910.
The modern design of the shield is the work of an adaptation by the designer Claret Serrahima made in 2002, which includes more stylized lines, deletes the points that separated the club's initials, abbreviates the name and reduces the number of points.
