Hi David - thanks for your message. I think you are the first person in this Forum who chose Esperanto! :) I remember in my school there was a math teacher who was an Esperantist, he was from Holland and he married another Esperantist and she was from Canada. It was their only common language, she only spoke French and he spoke Dutch and German. So in those days I heard people speaking Esperanto every day - but I haven't heard it many years...

I have choosen esperanto because is the only one wich is different from the others. Esperanto is the most famous planned language, all the others were created from natural evolution, but esperanto it was created to be a way to communicate all the world with the same conditions. It was built using the most simply rules from languages with different roots, always searching an easy learning.
Throughout their history has suffered some attacks from differents dicatatorships like Francoism, Stalinism or Nazism who tried to eliminate this language. But nowaday, up to two million of people speake esperanto and nearly 1500 have esperanto as mother tongue.
