About my education

Now, at an age of 53 years, I remember my elementary school as part of an education system that was in an early stage of development. By those days, it was acceptable that teachers and parents punish their students for their behavior or bad results in the class activities, in public and with violence. I didn´t like that, and now I feel grateful for the regulation that doesn’t allows or accepts that regime.

In that time, the students used to have much more time and opportunities to play a lot of different games with the other students than today. Now, children have more presential hours in the classroom and must prepare a lot work at home for their classes.

I think that teachers and institutions rectors form that time used to be more compromised and responsible with their mission and tasks, than those in the current days.

I´m sure that education in the early stage is very important for adult life, especially, if it is led to create values and principles in the childhood to live in harmony with our self and with the other people.

I would like to have enjoyed more my childhood in those days than I did, because, I´m sure that it would have helped me to be happier and more successful in this stage of my life.

Thanks for your interesting message UBER DE JESUS. Are you talking about primary school in Spain? I'm a bit older than you, and went to a progressive school in Switzerland. But even there, individual teachers could be violent towards students, although the school certainly didn't condone physical punishment. I think it was an echo of earlier centuries, when beating was considered a useful educational tool and children weren't considered to be fully human. Times have changed, luckily. On the other hand nowadays there are other problems, like the fact that there is less funding for public schools, so important activities, mainly creative things, are dropped from the curriculum to save money.
Anyway, thanks for writing and see you again soon,
Pieter
