1 I love Word Jumble because kids love it too…it is a group activity and we can practice Spelling, word order, writing skills and grammar
The teacher writes sentences, and each sentence needs to be in a different color, between three and five sentences per group. We cut up the sentences in separate words words and put these into cups, keeping the words per sentence separate. Divide the class into teams of 2-4 members. The groups need to put their sentences in the correct order, and the winning team is the one who correctly puts their sentences in order first.
2 Motivating…tricky Word as it is sometimes really difficult to motivate students after 3 hours of math, Spanish and Philosophy for example…or last period of the day… “pair work” works better than “Group work” I think, except when they are working on projects when learners can help each other while working on different tasks such as writing dialogues, drawing, preparing Prezi or power point presentations etc…some students also find learning certain structures or usages of language from their classmates less stressful.
Role play is also popular among the young ones but 4 ESO students are sometimes too shy or embarrassed to perform in front of the class. Songs are great to teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, we sing songs after we have learned from them…and kids love Kahoot!!!
