7 Listening Final Task

Level: A2 (young learners, 12-13 year old)
No. of Students: 12
Aim: By the end of the lesson, the students will have:
- Practised their listening skills
- Practised their speaking skills
- Revised the Simple Past
- Revised Vocabulary related to free time activities
Evidence:
- Completed worksheets, feedback
- Speaking activities going on in the classroom
Teacher’s Aims:
- Strengthen the students’ listening and speaking skills and their use of Language (Past Simple, Vocabulary related to free time activities).

Assumptions:
The students will already be familiar with the Past Simple and the Vocabulary, but they will need to practise.

Warm-up

T asks the class who has had the best weekend, and hears a few answers from volunteer students. T provides feedback if required. Then T asks to discuss in pairs and decide who in the pair has had the best weekend.

In turns, volunteers from each pair report their findings to the class

Pairwork: writing questions
- To discuss about what the T’s weekend has been like
- To revise/ practise Questions in the Past Simple tense
- To write questions to ask the teacher using the Past Simple
T tells the Ss they are going to find out about his/her weekend. They will need to ask him/her questions but he/she is only going to answer if the question is grammatically correct.
T elicits one model correct question writing the verb go on the board and eliciting the question Where did you go? from the whole class. He/she might need to revise the structure.
T asks Ss to work in pairs and write as many questions as they can in 3’. Each pair will get 10 points for every correct question that no other pair has, and 5 points for every correct question that other groups have.

- To get a gist of what the T has done at the weekend
In turns, each pair asks the T one of their questions.
T provides feedback if necessary.
T writes the scores on the board.
T asks Ss to listen to his answers and make notes. (T may need to use notes as a reference)
In the end, the winning pair is quickly celebrated.

Listening
- To practise listening skill
- To listen for specific information.
T hands out a worksheet with his/her diary from last week. Dates and times are on it.
T asks Ss to listen to a recording of him/herself talking about his/her last weekend (content must stick to that in previous activity) and fill in the worksheet (they might be able to anticipate some of the answers from the previous exercise). They are going to listen to the recording twice.

Game
- To practise speaking skills and revise the language learnt
T asks each Ss to write five sentences describing what they’ve been doing at the weekend on five different pieces of paper.
T collects all the pieces of paper.
T hands out one piece of paper to each S at a time, and asks them to go around the class and ask their classmates questions and find the person who wrote that sentence.
Once they have found the author, they can have another sentence from the T.
In the end, the winner is that S who has more sentences.
