Hobby

When I was 10 years old, my father encouraged me to collect stamps. Why stamps?
Because he worked in the army's telegraph service and it seemed like a pretty hobby. Now I am almost 49 years old and still collecting stamps. It has always seemed like a good way to see monuments, important people, historical events... When I was young I collected stamps from all the countries of the world, but now I only collect stamps from Spain since 1950. I have the stamps separated in albums. Each album has two-year stamps, so I have a few albums.
I am now a subscriber of the Spanish postal service and every two months they send me stamps. I always hope that day comes, because I love to see them. I always buy the sheets to place at the end of each year. So in the Christmas holidays I feel calmly to place the stamps of that year.
For me it is a very beautiful hobby.

I collected cards when I was little between 7 and 9 years old, and I liked it a lot, we played to give a touch with the hand in the shape of a hole so that the cards were lifted and you earned them if they were turned upside down, with the image facing up , shaking his hand over them. I had many types of cards, flowers, people, birds, various things, they were very colorful and fun

When I was a child I collected coins. I was also interested in stamps, but I thought coins had more value. Maybe because stamps are made of paper and coins of metal. Some of these metals has an economic value, like bronze, silver and gold. Even, if it’s a contemporaneous coins collection, these items has a value in the market. You always can use it.

I have not been too much to collect things. I really enjoy doing collages and that's why for 2 years I look for old images or magazines for collage. I like to visit markets, or old shops.

In my family I have a good example of someone who loves collecting things. My father began many years ago, when he was young to collect stamps. We have at home a great collection with six or seven albums plenty of stamps.
Years later he began to collect key-rings, and all my family everywhere they went they brought him a key-ring from there, I think we have key-rings from the 5 continents and al least from 100 countries, for sure!
Later came the thimbles, also from all over the world...
Plates, which you can hang on the wall for decoration...
I'm beginning to think that my parents home is a little museum.

LOL! That's a funny story Patricia - soon there will be no space left for people in your father's house! :) In my office we have a collection of fridge magnets. Every time one of us goes on a trip, they bring back a fridge magnet. We have one matal cupboard covered in fridge magnets, and now there is no more space, so people have stopped buying them..
See you again soon,
Pieter
