Did you know that there is a person in Honolulu (Hawaii) who collects World War II Radio Broadcasts? He has over 20.000 items in his collection broadcasts. One of his favourite broadcasts dates from may, 1942: The Manua Loa volcano had erupted ont he island of Hawaii, much to the concern of military personnel who were still jittery over the attack on Peral Harbor. Worried that the spectacular lava flow would serve as a beacon to enemy aircrarft, CBS ordered correspondent Webley Edwards to keep this hot news item a secret for almost a month, until the volcanic activity had subsided. The network then allotted Edwards several minutes to give his eyewitness account of the event. He describes it in such graphic detail that listeners can clearly visualize the eruption.
