Australians play a game called Australian (rules) football, Aussie rules or footy. Australian football played between two teams, each with 18 players with a ball in the shape of prolate spheroid. This game played outdoors on a large oval shaped grass field, it had four goal post at each end. To score must kick the ball between the middle two posts of the opposing goal. The match is divided in four quarters. The length of the quarters can vary from 15 to 25 minutes. In special circumstances the timer is stopped.
Players may use any part of their body to lead the ball. The methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The players with ball have to intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. The players can’t throw and they can’t hold the ball. Unlike European football, there isn’t offside rule, the players can roam the field freely.
A distinctive feature of the game is the mark, the player can’t travel more than 15 meters without touching or hitting the ball on the ground. The player has to bounce the ball in this interval.
Australian football is a contact sport in which players can tackle using their hands or use whole body to obstruct opponent players. They can’t use dangerous physical contact.
The penalties are punished with free kicks, distance penalties or suspension. Players have to respect some rules.
The goal is valid when the ball is propelled through the goal posts at any height only directly kicking from attacking team. Also the behind is scored when the ball is propelled between the goal post and the behind post at any height. The ball can’t hit one of behind posts.
A goal value 6 points and a behind value 1 point.
The winner team is the team with most points. The report of score is terms in three groups: numbers of goals, number of behinds and number of points.
