Giving your advice

4. My two-year-old boy gets uncontrollably angry and starts screaming at the worst possible times, like in the grocery store.

It's very difficult to give advice about toddler behavior because every child and every family have their own relationships and personality. Nevertheless, I would like to share the advice that my counsellor gave me. It is very difficult not to give in when a child has temper tantrums in a public space, as a mall or a grocery store. But one think that you may well do is to foresee the situation. This means that before leaving for the grocery store, at home, you might speak calmly with your child and tell him that you are going to go shopping but that you aren't going to buy him anything even if he gets angry and he starts screaming. It may be that he starts screaming in this moment at home. So then you must try not to give in and wait until he calms down. When you will be in the grocery store he probably will try to negotiate and he will behave better. You must repeat this strategy in different situations. This really worked for me.
