Where I come from, common names are Antonio, Fernando, Alberto, Carmen, Carlos, Maria, Núria, etcc.
In my family certainly there are no common names...
My brother is named Damian as my father....but there is no common name certainly
In my country there are popular names from another countries, because in Barcelona there are people living from a lot of nationalities...
When I meet someone for the first time, I use complete name.... I know if I can use a first name, depending on the conversation, if is formal, or informal.
We use surnames depending on each conversation....if you are talking in a meeting at work, you use always Mrs, or Mr. Otherwise, with the colleagues at the office is not usual.
In our language we use names that show affection, as cariño, vida, amor.....etc....
