There is a wide experience with therapies that uses animal in their treatments , especially when the target is to help to recovery of mental disabilities or problems related to cognitive skills.
In special cases the results of the development of some activities with horses, dogs and other animals have been very successful , especially when there has been a close connection between the disabled and the animal.
The participation of animals in some therapies gives better results when children are involved, because in such cases the connection is deeper and, consequently ,there are a higher intimacy between patient and animal.
To what extent is the influence of animals in the improvement of this type of diseases is widely debated, but there is no doubt about results in cases that have led to a reduction of time of treatment and a positive reaction of the patient.
Not always the animals’ help leads to satisfactory outcomes, and ,of course, many failures could be cited. But bad results doesn`t mean that, these specific therapies don´t work efficiently.

It is true, there are many animals apart from dolphins that are used in therapies, above all, of behavior and social problems and also to solve phobias to animals and pets.
Surely we will not know the effectiveness of these therapies but it is also true that there is no totally effective therapy for mental illness and behavioral disorders.
