I think that when you travel by first time to somewhere and you don't know anybody and you don't have any reference it's quite possible that you get lost, Specially if you have troubles to communicate with others. In fact, I have never had such misunderstanding. However, once I overheard one of my students singing a tv show song when something he said drew my attention. The song was ... smile, sweet, sister, surprise, service...nevertheless instead of service he was pronouncing "cervix". After a while, I went with him and aked if he knew the meaning of cervix and the told me the translation of service. I realized que was misunderstanding the song and I explained him both words and the correct one according to the song. We ended up laughing about his mispronouncing, and he learned how to sing and pronounce correctly.
