1. Have you, or has anyone you know, ever suffered from RSI or SAD?
Yes, I suffered RSI in my right elbow by using computers a lot. At this moment my elbow already aches a bit. I don’t know anybody who suffered SAD.
2. Do you make sure that you sit and type correctly when you use a computer or typewriter? Do you ever have pains in any parts of your body from using the computer for long periods of time?
No, I don’t. On the contrary, I make sure I don’t sit and type correctly because my chair is bad. I ought to buy a better chair. I have pains in my right elbow, as I wrote in question 1, but I try to take some breaks when I have to work a lot of time with the computer.
3. What advice would you give to someone who has just bought a computer to prevent problems like RSI and aches and pains in the back, shoulders and arms? Write five suggestions. Read the suggestions of your classmates and vote for the best five.
1- Don’t look at the screen for a lot of time without to avert your eyes to a far object in the room, for example.
2- The keyboard must be in the same height than elbows. You often ought to relax and stretch your hands.
3- The chair ought to a high back and its height ought to be adjustable.
4- If you must spend many hours using your new computer, it can be a good idea you stand up a moment and walking or doing exercises every two hours.
5- Buy the most powerful computer you can but, please, don’t forget to buy an ergonomic keyboard to prevent injuries in your arms and shoulders like RSI.
4. Do you think the exercises described in READING are very useful and effective?
Yes, I think these exercises can be very useful but I don’t know if they’re effective. I make sure they’re!
5. Do you do any exercises during or after working at a desk for a long period of time? Describe two. Then read the exercises posted on the Noticeboard and choose the ones you like best.
Sometimes I stretch my arms and I bend my wrists back. I also stand up a couple of times every two hours and walk a little bit in the room or go outside in my garden to relax my eyes. I do exercises for the neck turning my head to left and after to right but I don’t do any specific exercise so I can’t make sure if these actions are effective.
NOTE: At the moment there is only a posted advice about work injuries, so I have to vote for this only one by Anna BS.
