2. Famous places.
The Alhambra is a city located in Granada (Spain). It is a rich palace and fortress complex that housed the monarch and the court of the Kingdom of Granada.
Etymologically, Alhambra in Arabic "Al Hamra" means red. "Red" because when it was built because of the torchlight in the night it looks red. Other authors argue that "Alhambra" is simply the feminine name of its founder Abu Alahmar who was red-haired.
In 1238 Granada Abu Alahmar comes in across Elvira's gate to occupy the Palace of the Gallo del Viento, people greeted him with shouts of Welcome the winner by the grace of Allah and he said: Only Allah wins. This sentence is written in the Alhambra. Ben-Al-Hamar built the first nucleus of the palace and his son Muhammad II, who was a friend of Alfonso X, fortified it.
The Alhambra in Granada style is the culmination of Andalusian art, which was at mid-century with Yusuf I XIV, who built the Tower of Comares, and with Mohamed V, who built the Patio de los Leones.
The UNESCO declared the Alhambra as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in its meeting on November 2nd in 1984.
