Travel companions and equipment

1. Travel companions.

I would like to go on a trek in the Himalayas. Concretely I would like to go on a journey to Nepal to see Chomologma (Mount Everest). I’m not ready to ascent this kind of mountain but I would love to see it and to go on a trek around the mountain through mountain passes and “little” picks of about 6 000 metres high. The views must be amazing. But I wouldn’t like to go there in any organised trekking. I would like to go independently and, like Alexadra David-Néel, on foot and little equipment. Searching the routes and deciding where I have to stop to take a rest and when.

2. Equipment.

About what equipment I would take to go on a walk in the mountains for a weekend, I think I would choose the things depending what kind of mountains are. So if I imagine I’m going on foot in medium mountains I would choose a tent (1); a rucksack (2) to carry other things like a first-aid kit (3) and matches (4). Carrying matches is very, very important when you are walking in the mountains a bit far from cities or towns. Going on foot in medium mountains during the summer time is not very cold so I would only take the sleeping bag (5) and a carry mat (6), of course. As the excursion is only for a weekend I would prefer to carry cold food so I wouldn’t need any stove and pots and pans. I would also need no compass or sewing kit. I would take a good map (7) and a good waterproof jacket because I know the weather can get bad suddenly. It would only be a single weekend but I would like to walk quite so I would always want to wear a good pair of boots (8).

3. Geography quiz.

Why do people visit Sitges in Barcelona?
Why do people visit Rio de Janeiro in Brasil in february?
Why do people visit New York?
Why do people go to Egypt?
Why do people visit Venice?
Why do people go to Kathmandu in Pakistan?
Why do some young people go to live certain time in Urbino in Italy?
