Travel companions/Equipment

I always prefer to travel independently. One of the travels I want to do is to visit Sicilia, and dive in the little islands that are in the north of Sicilia. My idea is to rent a car and drive arround the island and try to find tradicianal places to eat, sleep and visit, and when there's an oportunity make a dive in the meditterranean sea.
EQUIPMENT
The fist thing I choose is the compass and the map, I don't want to lose myself. And a good boots and a waterproof jacket to be safe for the bad weather. A sleeping bag to sleep at might, I don't care if I have to sleeep down the stars. A stove, the pots and pans and the matches, to coke something to eat and made a fire in the night. And I thing that's all, those things are the eight things I choose if I go for a walk in the mountains for a week.
