Films from my country

I think the most international spanish director is Pedro Almodóvar. Some of his most famous films are:

All about my mother: this Pedro Almodovar film won Best Foreign Film at the Oscars.

Talk to her: it’s a marvel of melodrama.

Bad Education: this semi-autobiographical film tells the story of aspiring film-maker Fele Martinez, who gets involved with a childhood love who is not all he appears to be.

Other spanish films are:

Belle Epoque: Fernando Trueba's charming film about a deserter in 1930s Spain. It won 9 Goya Awards and one Oscar for Best Foreing Film. This film is about a young army deserter who finds refuge with an agreeable artist and his four daughters, who cheerfully set about seducing him one by one.

Butterflys Tongue: A film about the Spanish Civil War told through the eyes of a little kid.

Open your eyes: This film inspired Vanilla Sky. It is a combination of sci-fi, tragic love story and psychological thriller. With a fast moving plot and several bizarre twists this film keeps you guessing until the final startling climax.

*censured* and Lucia: In this film the Director Medem, use his favourite themes of love, *censured*, death and creativity. The actress Paz Vega plays Lucia, a beautiful waitress who escapes to an island following the death of her novelist boyfriend. She discovers the dark corners of her past relationship as if they were the forbidden passages of a novel which the author, now from afar, allows her to read.

Take my eyes: An uncompromising, provocative and emotionally raw drama about domestic violence in which a young mother tries to make a new life for herself after years of brutality at the hands of her husband. Directed by Iciar Bollain.

The Sea Inside: Directed by Alejandro Amenábar it’s based on a true-life story, Bardem plays Ramon, who is fighting a long campaign in favour of euthanasia and his own right to die.
