Although it’s a Hispano-American production, I would recommend the film “Pan’s La Labyrinth” (El laberinto el fauno). Directed and written by Guillermo del Toro, the action takes place in the fascist Spain of 1944. The main character, a young girl called Ofelia, lives between two worlds: The fantasy world with a mysterious labyrinth and the real world with a frightening stepfather, fascist captain, and a pregnant mother that is very ill.
