1.-Job interview:Important qualities.
If the appearance is good, it means nothing (ciefs trye to be well dress, too, to do not alert people). However if the appearence is not good enought, it always means something (at least a lack of interest to attend to this interview) :)
Qualifications and work experience usually are requirements to apply some job positions. and in my opinion the most important is the personality. Your values, your entusiasm, your attitude... a lot of little things that makes you unique.
2. Job advice.
I have applied for a new job only twice in my life (in 20 laboural years). It's not a big experience! However I have donne a lot of interviews to find good employees. Appearance and CV are really no importants (if you have the features required to apply the job). During the conversation you need to know the person who is in front of you, to guess if is acting or is natural, to identify good competences and attitudes. And to do this only in 1 hour is not easy! In a second interview you can have more information related with skills and the way of the candidate usually works.
