A story about mobile phones from an internet website:
"There once was a dairy farmer in Virgina. This farmer had a favorite cow that he loved very much. The cow died of old age, and the farmer decided to bury it on his farm becuase he loved it so much.
He drove his backhoe to a spot, forgetting completly that he had leased a right-of-way to MCI for them to run a single-mode fiber optic cable serving the entire mid-atlantic region.
He ignored the two "do not dig, call MCI signs"
When the hole was three feet deep, he didn't notice the strip of yellow flagging tape buried in the ground that said "stop digging, call MCI" on it.
At six feet deep, he didn't notice the bright orange coated fiber optic cable, which he cut in two, disconnecting over 94,080 phone calls and interupting phone and data traffic all over the east coast.
He then put his favorite cow in the hole, and covered it with dirt.
An hour later, the MCI field techs arrived on site to find and fix the fiber break and discovered a backhoe, a mound of dirt, and a weaping old man sitting on top of the dirt mound.....
Fixing the cable was not a pretty site."
