I think the most usefull is alarm clock because I don't ever wake up without a little help
Laptop is OK too, you can use near everyplaces, you can send a mail, play, look for information in internet...
CD player is a good thing because music is a pleasure
Fax machine is ,as its name, fax, and this, in our crazy stile of life, is important
