I think that in a job interview, the qualities that most impress an interviewer are, in this order, qualifications (degree), work experience, personality and appareance.
If you don't have the degree required you will be reject, this is the first step to be able to accede on the job.
Then, if you have a work experience, you can present reports of the previous companies and this orientates the interviewer how the candidate is.
The advantatge of the interview in opposition to the curriculum vitae is that you can value the personality of the candidate, if he is a responsible and educated person.
Finally, appareance gives importance in some works if the applicant have to stay to attend to the public but for me this quality is the less important.
