In your country

In your country

Postby Rosa Barbany » Tue May 02, 2017 2:55 pm

In my country different languages are spoken. The official is Spanish but there are other languages that are co-official: Catalan, Valencian, Galician and Basque.
The co-official languages could be considered official since they are spoken by a very high percentage of the autonomous communities of which they are origin and are also taught in schools.
Anyway, it’s a very current topic that is often a subject of discussion and about which there are many different opinions. We could talk for hours about it.

Hi Rosa, yes, it is complicated. I have the impression that the co-official languages don't have the same status as Spanish. I think if would be fairer if they had the same status, as in countries like Canada or Switzerland.. Can I help with something?
they are spoken by a very high percentage of the autonomous communities of which they are origin = of which they are origin doesn't work. Maybe you can say: they are spoken by a very high percentage of the different autonomous communities. Or: .. where they originated.
it’s a very current topic= it's a hot topic / a divisive topic

See you soon,
Pieter
