UNIT 1. NAMES

There are many Spanish names which are more common than the others. For example, names as José, Pepe, Paco, Juan are very frequent in our country. My name is Rodrigo, which is not a very common name, although is considered one of the most important historical names. In fact, I was named after the "Cid Campeador", who was called Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. Furthermore, my family name, Moreno, is very common in Spain. It doesn't tell anything about special professions. However, other family names as Barquero or Soldado do. In Spain, it's usual to talk to people using their first name when you have just known them. Titles as Sr. or Sra. are not very often used, unless you are talking to an important person. I wouldn't do it in any situation because from my point of view it prevents from knowing deeply the other person. I prefer using names that show affection, like cariño, amor or churri. But obviously they cannot be used in all cases!
