Here is the Wikipedia link to drugs in sport:

A very complete page with more external links at the bottom of the page.
Two more links, discussing about benefits and risks of EPO:

A well known baseball player, Alex Rodriguez, last February he told in an exclusive interview on TV that he took performance-enhancing drugs while he was playing for the Texas Rangers during a three-year period beginning in 2001.
However, he recognises that he was stupid and he said that now is clean.

There are five main categories of drug that are banned:
- Anabolic steroids- these help athletes to build muscle, and to recover faster from training.
- Peptide hormones- these are substances tat occur naturally in the body, but which produce similar effects to the anabolic steroids.
- Strong analgesic painkillers- such as morphine and other opiates.
- Stimulants- drugs like amphetamines and cocaine can raise the heart rate and may improve performance.
- Diuretics- these are chemical products that help the body to lose fluids, and are useful in helping boxers to meet their weight.
