I live in Madrid and here you can find a wonderful real name miscellany.
Like this happens since time ago it becomes really rare the ancient classical local names and they becomes to sound for us as exotic as the foreign names. In the middle of all this you can find, fortunately, a lot of new names in the place, some of them returning from south America where arrived centuries ago (Asdrubal, Lazaro, Adonay, ..), others from the northeast European countries (Alojzy, Ksenia,..)that we learn most of the time only in a phonetic way without any idea of how to write them but with our best aim, and many from the diverse and rich languages of Spain (Peio, Gaitzka, Mireia, Oriol, Baaia, Guayamina, Emerenciana..) and many other countries of the world (Wang, Sean, Ornella) This makes me really fell good with my city and with their citizens, they the oldes and the newst have understand how to be open minded and to share friendly our city for the convivence...even if it means that the Madrilenian classical names like Cayetano, Lorenzo, Isidro o Paloma have being diluted in this new calendar of saints.

The moment to change from one to another could be given in a protocol relationship by the moment that the interlocutors agreed to do it.
Of course in my language pets names are as common as in any languages, cariño, cielo, amor, ..are frequent ones in the private closed circles trying to avoid to sound somehow ridiculous or infantiles
