GENDER GAP

GENDER GAP

Spain is quite male chauvinist. This is not a recent situation, but nowadays is still certain, although the things are slowly improving.
Until recently, politicians have not made many efforts to change this atavistic discrimination. Now is possible to find women doing all sorts of jobs, although many differences remain, and still is rare to find women in certain “male” work environments, as in the army, in garages, in construction or transportation. And the same happens in reverse.
I think that discrimination will go on, specially if we consider the differences in salaries, that are still very important, and also due to the different role played regarding the parenting.
According to the European Commission, the wage difference in 2008 was 18% for men.
Due to the crisis and unemployment, currently we can find men doing housework and women driving buses or taxis, for exemple, although most of the latter that the first!!
