1- Nowadays there are a large variety of names in my contry, although a few years ago two of the most common names were "Jordi" and "Montserrat"
2-3-4- My family first name is "Marrahy" and it is not usual at all, and my second one is "Canet" wich is not often either. I find out that my first surname cames from a valley called "La vall d'Albaida", wich is in the est of Spain, and it refers to a small piece of land, it cames probably from the time that the Arabs were set up in the Spanish peninsula. About my second one,it refers to a land with wattles (I'm not sure of this word)
4- Yes, there are some surnames that are refer to a professions such as: Manyà (Locksmith) Fuster (Carpenter) Casemajor (Big house)
5- Yes, with the new inmigration we have some new names like: Vanessa, Kevin, Jonathan, Pol, etc.etc.etc.
6- In Catalunya, like in the rest of Spain, when we meet someone we intoduced them by using the Cristian name, unless we are in a polite situation, then we would use aswell the first surname.
7- Yes, mainly at school, and sometimes at work also. We use this form when we know the person quite well. Sometimes we do it just for fun.
8- We can use words like: Bombonet (chocolate) Carinyet,Torronet (kind of nougat),Cuca, etc.etc.etc.
