Is this the right room for Linda? Why? Why not?
No, I think it isn’t:
It’s more expensive than she can offer (or perhaps afford).
Pets are not allowed, and Linda has a cat.
This room is very far from Brooklyn (it’s near to Central Park)
And, finally, landlord prefers medical students, and Linda has a full time job, so she isn’t a student.

Can you match up two potential room mates or flatmates? Perhaps:

2. Accommodation prices
Find out how much a room in a flat costs in different cities:
• New York
• London
• Sydney
• Toronto

New York: the more expensive city. Price for a room in Queens or Brooklyn between 750 and 900 $ month. Price for a room in Manhattan between 1.300 and 1.600 $ month.
Toronto, Canada: Price for a room in Toronto city between 450 and 550 Canadian dollars (more or less the same than USA dollars) month.
London (city): perhaps the cheaper. There is a wide rang of prices for a room. I think an average could be 100-100 pw month for a room (more or less 200-220 $).
Sydney: I don’t know. I couldn’t find a worthy web with prices. An average could be 720 $ month.

Is this the right room for Linda? Why? Why not?

Really, it's not the right room for Linda. There is no one coincidence betwee the two adverts.
At least, there isn't agreement about the place where Linda needs the room and where it's offered.
Afterwards, she can't pay the rent. There's a difference of $200. Another important matter is that she has a cat. Although she explains that it's a well-behaved feline, perhaps the landlord did'nt accept this presence. Also, she smokes. Probably it will be another reason for not to be accepted in the flat.
Finally, the landlord prefer medical students. Linda isn't a student now. She is a full-time worker. Maybe this item it's not a matter.
In fact, Linda have to follow searching for a room...

2. Accommodation prices.

After I've been searching in internet, I can say that the most expensive city, if you want to rent a flat is New York. In this city you can find a room between $750 to 900 in a cheap towns, as Broklyn or others. But if you want to rent a room in Manhattan, you will pay a lot of money. You can find a room from $1300 to $1600. Really it's a luxury to live in Manhattan.
If you search for to rent a room in other international cities, as London, Sydneo o r Toronto, you will find that the prices are cheaper than New York. Maybe you can find it around $200 to $600, depending of the town where you have found.
