Things about my name and surnames

A greeting from Barcelona!

My name is Oriol, a catalan name not used in the rest of Spain. It takes the name of a beautiful little bird dressed with gold pens. Before it was a common name in most catalan villages but now is not very used. Uri is the short name, used by friends or when there are confidence. My surnames are Pinart Sabater. There are few people called Pinart (maybe less than 300) and according to my father it comes from France where they finished with final d (Pinard) and once here it changes the end. Because in both countries it seems a forest of pines. The second one, Sabater as I know is one of the oldest in Catalunya and it means shoe maker. So I'm a birth that lives in a forest of pines that is dedicated to make golden shoes. Ufff! I think the common surnames in Spain could be: García, Lopez, Ruíz, Gonzalez, Perez (and the others ended with z). Nowadays is notorious the tendency to put anglo-saxons names like: Jonathan (pronounced "ionatan"), Vanesa, Brenda and so. Also I know people born here named Africa, Lluna (moon), Uc, Ian or Iuri.

That's all for today... until the next one!

By the way! Aerdt is the name of a song of my favourite bands, Pink Turns Blue.
