In Spain more typical surnames are Perez, Lopez, Fernandez etc... as you see all of them ends in -ez which means " son of ".My surname is not very common but very "famous" because is VISA, like credit car. Visa is a catalan surname located in small towns of Lerida.
In Catalan you also can find surnames like "Ferrer" that means the person who works with iron .
When someone introduce a friend in a formal meeting or conversation , it is using first name and surname but not Mr o Mrs before that. On the other hand for unformal situations it is used only the first name.
