I think dolphins helped Nikki. But they, obviously, didn't teach him to speak. I think Nikki had a problem with his relations in the world, and he couldn't show his emotions. Contact with dolphins helped him to be more expressive.
I dont Know other stories about the therapeutic effect of animals, but I have information that nowadays many people use this therapy. Cats and Dogs, domestic animals have good effects with old people helping them don't feel alone.
I think that if you have a problem with your children and there is a possibility to solve it, you do everything that is in your hand.

Could be a media exageration

I've heard or readen something about dolphins helping people suffering of psicological problems like the autism, or like the Nikki's case. I've heard them so many times that I'm sure that probably they could be true. Even if I was on a situation like mather's Nikki I would raise a very important ammount of money to try to make one more effort to help my son. But the fact is that some cases don't justify a therapy. I mean that to be confident that the dolphins therapy works there should be a statistics and a scientist basis, if not we'll be talking about funny theories, and courious and lucky people.
I suppose that there's people studying and trying to develop a formal theory to make deal people and that all this stuff is really borning nowadays.
It's nice to believe that some nice animals like dolphins can care, even that they can talk and we could communicate to them sooner or later. But believing on these theories is an act of faith, so it's up to you to believe or not. The same we could say with God and religion, etc. I mean that without a scientist basis, all that is no more than faith and words, but no facts.

I really think animals can help in some treatments. Not only dolphins, but also horses and other animals. I think it's only a matter of time that it could be cientifically demonstrated. Up to now, there are lots of experiences that shows it can be a good treatment for some illnesess, but it must be said that it won't be a panacea.

I think the dolphins helped Nikki to grow up his self-confidence, and that's why he learned to speak.
I really think that they helped him, I've heard many stories about people, especially children, helped by dolphins.
Animals are helping any kind of person not to fell alone, not only old people. Nowadays there are many people feeling alone.
I even think that if your child has some kind of problem you do everything that you can.

I don't know so much about dolphins but I've read they're one of the most intelligent animals known. Maybe they could communicate with Nikkie in a way we can't understand and it could be the reason he could start speaking.

Certainly, they helped Nikkie.

I've also read a few stories about horses and hoy they help kids and autistic people.

I've readd many times Nikki's story and have found how did she do. Probably I'd ask the bank for some kind of lending; extra work or anything else that could increase my usual quantity of money.
