Hi, my name is Jessica Gaseni and I'm from Barcelona. In Catalonia there are some Catalan names that are very common, like Jordi, Joan, Josep, Montse, Mariona... but these days you can find a lot of international names in Spanish people, like me, Jessica is a jewish name, very used in the States, but you can find lots of Jessicas around, when I was in the High School we were 5 Jessicas in the same grade.

My family name isn't very common here, it comes from Italy and I have to spell it all the time, I don't know its meaning. In Spain, family names that ends with ez means son of, like Fernandez means son of Fernando.

When we meet someone for the first time we don't use the first name if we are in a professional event like a convention, but if we meet someone trough a friend for example we use the first name.

We use surnames without a tittle for example in school, if in the same classroom there are two or more people with the same name, the teacher and classmates use the family name, as "Garcia a la pizarra"

Common pet names in Spain there are lot, som of them are "cariƱo", "amor", "corazon".
