Posted: Wed May 13, 2009 4:21 pmMy name is Cristina and I'm from Barcelona. Common family names in Spain are Sanchez, Martinez, Perez ... , but names are differents, it depends on the spain area. In Catalonia the common name are Maria, Pol, Marc, and is call child with names from another countries. I think that names are the influence of the fashion, and sometimes we choose a name like and actor a singer o a model.
My family name isn't so common, but when you find someone ho has the same surname is amazing.
I always use the name when i meet someone, it is more commom use surname in the job or when you speak with important people, is more polite than use de name.
Some times long names became shorts like Fernando - Nando, Montserrat - Montse or Montsita that at the same time show affection.
In general I don't use pet names, I think they are ridiculous
