Hi!!
My name is Rosa and I’m from Barcelona, Spain. As someone said at the noticeboard, the classical and usual names in our country are Maria, Josep, Núria, Cristina, Silvia, Enric or Rosa… If you are old than 30, probably you have a lot of friends with those names.

Some years ago the international names were very fashionable like Christian, Jonathan, Jessica, Erika, Carla, Kevin etc. My daughter, who is 15, has friends with those names. Lately, people look for a very original or strange names (Ona, Lluna, Alma...)

My family name is not common. It means “little stones” or gravel in Aragonese. Our origins are in Jaca (Huesca). A navarrese came in the XVIII century to Jaca and bought some lands with a quarry. Until 1980 my family worked cutting and selling stones (for pavements, fireplaces, fountains and so on).

Usually I call people by name they are introduced to me. For example:
- Dr. Cardellach (Our Dean)
- Sr. Miret (one of our customers)
-Tere (my mother in law)
-Mac (my husband)

It depends of the context and the relation we have.

People call me in different ways. For example, my mother named me Maria Rosa; at work I was introduced as Rosa; at home they called me “Malo” (it’s a short of my nickname “Malosi” at World of Warkraft); at the doctor’s they call me Sra. Zaborras but I don't like it.

In Spanish there are a lot of pet names like cariño, bonita or amor mio.I prefer funny names like “wenorro”. When I said it to my husband, he suspect I’m kidding.
