My name is José and I live in Madrid. Perhaps, the most common name in Spain is José and his nickname Pepe, so I have the most common name in Spain.
I know my family name comes from Navarra, but it dosn´t tell me nothing more.
In Spain, many names refer to profession, as Herrero, Tejedor or Labrador, but the most famous in this moment is our Prime Minister named Zapatero.
Now, we don´t use usaully the "usted" form. For this reason we commonly adress some body using the first name. We use a title as Mr or Mrs in formal relationship, in work or with old people, using the first name.
In Spanish there are a lot of pet names as "cariño" and "amor" and many others used in couple.
Pepe,
