My name is Mar. Mar means sea in Spanish. It’s not a very common name but now is much more usual than some years ago. Someone tell me that it’s a usual name in Israel, Yam (or Iam), in Hebrew.
Most commons names in catalan are probably Jordi, Joan and Josep for men and Núria and Montserrat for women. Nowadays, people choose names like Marc and Júlia for their sons and daughters, the most popular names at present.
