Unit 1.
Point 11. Net Search
Subject: Information about my name
I’ve never though about the origin of my surname before. I remember once my grandfather told me that Dos Santos is a common surname in Portugal but anything else. That’s why I was little worry when I knew the subject of this part of the course.
Looking for it in internet, I found some information. First it is derived from the original roman (latin) “santus” meaning blameworthy, and has European origins.
It is recorded in every Christian country and in over forty individual spellings from saint (English), santos and sains (Spanish), sainteau and saintin (French), santucci and santello (Italian) and santesson (Swedish). Originally it was a nickname for pious person.
It was also used as Spanish and Portuguese surnames of De Santos, De los Santos and the fused from of Dos santos, all of which describe a person who come from a place called Santos or similar, the original home of a saint or a place that in commemorate a saint.
Another meaning of Dos santos that I found in internet said that it’s a Portuguese and Galician surname and literally means “of the saints” a common element of personal names, originally denoting a child born or baptized on “all saints” day.
I also looked for people who have the same name than me. I was surprised to find fifteen, but how many could be around the world outside the internet?
No more personal information I could get in Internet for these fifteen Sonia Dos Santos.
All of them apparently have good educational skills and jobs in different careers around the world.
Honestly this homework became a funny activity
