Talking about my family name I can tell that "Díaz" is the 14th most common surname in Spain. More than 5% are located in Asturias but its origins point to León. There exist theories that explain that the meaning of the surname Díaz comes from the Latin 'dies' ( days ) or from Diego. One of the most famous 'Díaz " is Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, known as " El Cid Campeador " , an historical and legendary figure of the Spanish "Reconquista".
