GENDER GAP
Funny experiment! I did it to three women and three men, all friends of mine. Results were as I thought. Consequently my “male” friends draw the truck driver as a man, the doctor as a man, the nurse as a woman and the teacher as a woman. Just like my “female”friends. Afterwards we disscused about it and we all shared more o less the same opinion that always have existed jobs tradionally for men (like doctor, writers, all kind of drivers) and women but fortunately this is changing quite a lot.
More or less in the sixties women started to gain access to the labour market and little by little for better or worse man’s and women’s “world” started to change.
Here in Spain, men and women share the labour market but we still get suprised if we find women doing men’s job like mechanic, ingeneer, truck driver etc.The other way round too!! Like a man working as a midwife. One way or the other, we all get suprised!!!!
On the other hand we find that many times women get less payed than men doing the same job. In other words the existence of gender gap in earnings. Among the top 20 countries, Spain is placed the tenth. In the latest Global Gender Gap Report, once again are in the top of the ranking Sweden, Norway or Finland. This report considers gender gap in between men and women in four areas: economical oportunities and participation, political power, education and health.
