Posted: Sun Nov 01, 2009 2:20 pmI asked to my friends to draw a truck driver, a doctor, a nurse and a kindergarten teacher. The result of the experiment was as I expected. Although everybody drew men and women as doctors, nurses and kindergarten teachers nobody drew a woman as a truck driver.
In my country it was really difficult for women to access to university and to get a job out of home until 40-50 years ago. Nowadays fortunately things have changed a lot and women have access to all kinds of jobs, including army but it´s still unusual to see women working for instance as a truck driver.
The gender gap refers to differences in a general psycho-social context. Talking about earnings tihs gap is going down everyyear but it still exists.
Some years ago it was impossible to find a woman driving a taxi. On the other hand it was very difficult to see men doing the housework. Fortunately people mentality has changed.
